Community Advocate
Location: Brooklyn Center, MN - On-site with local travel within the community, may include evenings and weekends.
Employment Type: Full-Time/Part-Time, 2 positions available.
Job Summary:
: The Community Advocate provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive support
to individuals impacted by domestic violence (DV), sexual assault (SA), gender-based violence (GBV), and
related forms of harm. This role includes crisis response, safety planning, case management, systems
advocacy, community outreach, and education. The advocate works closely with survivors to support
healing, access to resources, and empowerment while building stronger community awareness and
prevention.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Direct Services
• Provide confidential, survivor-centered advocacy and support to individuals experiencing or
impacted by DV/GBV.
• Offer safety planning, emotional support, legal advocacy (e.g., orders for protection), and
referrals for housing, health, legal, and financial assistance.
• Accompany survivors to court hearings, medical appointments, and other critical services
as needed.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client documentation in accordance with organizational
and legal standards.
2. Community Engagement & Education
• Build partnerships with local community groups, shelters, clinics, schools, and law
enforcement.
• Facilitate or co-lead community education and outreach workshops on DV/GBV awareness,
prevention, and available resources.
• Represent the organization at relevant community meetings, coalitions, and outreach
events.
3. Program Support & Development
• Assist with program evaluation, data collection, and grant reporting as needed.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
• Contribute to program planning, development of materials, and continuous quality
improvement
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Demonstrated commitment to ending gender-based violence and supporting survivors.
• Strong understanding of interpersonal, communication, and crisis intervention skills.
• Ability to work with individuals from diverse racial, cultural, gender, socioeconomic, and
linguistic backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish trust with survivors.
• Basic computer proficiency and case documentation skills.
• Familiarity with local DV/GBV resources, immigrant and refugee communities,
• 1–2 years of experience in advocacy, social work, or related field, preferred.
• 40-hour DV/SA advocate certification (or willingness to complete upon hire).
• Bilingual or multilingual skills in South Asian languages encouraged to apply.
Salary Range: $23 -27 per hour, commensurate skills and experience.
