For Immediate Release: Cultural Communities Come together MAY 16TH At Saint Paul Student Center. Sewa-Aifw’s annual event. “ Avoidance is not a bliss”

“Avoidance is not Bliss” is the central theme for the Annual Sewa-Aifw event to be held at the Saint Paul Student Center Auditorium on May 16th at 6 PM. Funds raised from this annual event will be used to build an adult day care center to serve the aged Asian community.

Sewa-Aifw (Serve - Asian Indian Family Wellness) a non-profit organization formed in 2004 is the only social services agency that serves the vulnerable population of India ,Pakistan, Sri-Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Ghana, Trinidad, and the Caribbean. Sewa-AIFW is known for bringing various Asian Communities under one umbrella in a collaborative way.

Sewa-AIFW mission of “Total Family Wellness” is being realized through various programs:

  • Domestic Violence Program involves intervention and prevention. A 24/7 crisis line answered by culturally trained advocates. These advocates provide referrals to agencies that are culturally attuned to Asian community needs.
  • Human Trafficking Program focuses on education and advocacy that has helped victims of human trafficking from South Asian Community for the last two years.
  • Health Initiatives Program offers monthly free health fairs run by volunteer Doctors who consult and refer them to other doctors who are culturally sensitive to Asian Community needs.
  • Senior Support Program provides nutritional, health, and housing needs for the Senior Asian Indians.
  • Refugee Settlement program includes -- Job Search, Housing, Driving Lessons, Community Engagement, Health Check Ups, Nutrition Information and Family Style Orientation with focus on “ How to live in Minnesota”.

Sewa-Aifw’s collaborative partners include -- Civil Society, Minnesota Coalition of Battered women (MCBW), Clearway, Minnesota Asian American Coalition Health (MAACH), Twin Cities partners for Change, and Asian Media Access.
